University of Macau foster ties with UK, Brazil institutions

The University of Macau in China is ramping up efforts to foster collaboration with prestigious higher education institutions in the United Kingdom and Brazil. 

UM’s delegation, led by Dean of the Honours College Lai Neng, along with Associate Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration Loi Chi Ho, and Head of the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management Miao Li, embarked on a journey to several renowned UK universities, according to a news released by the Government Information Bureau of the Macao SAR.

Among the institutions on their itinerary included the University of Cambridge, University of Bath, University of Surrey, University of Bristol, Queen Mary University of London, and Imperial College London.

The discussions centered around collaborative efforts in talent training and research, with a particular focus on student exchange programs. 

Through these engagements, UM deepened its relationships with UK universities and forged academic initiatives with international characteristics and global competitiveness. 

Areas of collaboration spanned tourism management, financial technology, and executive programs. 

Additionally, the delegation seized the opportunity to meet with HC students currently studying at the University of Bristol and the Queen Mary University of London to gain first-hand insights into the HC Study Abroad Programme.

Another delegation from UM, headed by Hu Weixing, the dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and Wang Ruibing, the director of the Global Affairs Office, embarked on a productive visit to Brazil. During the trip, they engaged with the prestigious research-education institution and think-tank, Fundação Getulio Vargas. Also, they had the opportunity to visit renowned universities such as the University of São Paulo, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, State University of Campinas, and Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. 

Strengthening cooperation through optimized student and faculty exchange programs, collaborative research initiatives, and establishing bilateral or multilateral cooperation platforms were discussed.

Both UM and Brazilian universities intended to foster closer ties and jointly organize academic conferences and educational activities.

UM aims to enrich talent training, expand research frontiers, and position itself as a leading global higher education institution by fortifying partnerships with top-tier institutions in the UK and Brazil.
