India’s Andhra Pradesh State has entered into an agreement to train school students in English language skills and incorporate AI and ChatGPT into the curriculum, with the goal of raising the quality of education in government schools to international standards.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has signed an memorandum of understanding on June 12, sanctioning the distribution of Jagananna Vidya Kanuka school kits for the 2023-24 academic year in Krosuru in the Pedakurapadu constituency of Palnadu district, with the aim of providing quality education to the children there.

The government in Andhra Pradesh has allocated â‚ą10.42 billion (about $126 million) for the purchase of 43.1 lakh “Vidya Kanuka Kits” for school children in grades one through 10. Each kit, costing â‚ą2400 (about $29), underwent a four-level quality assessment by the Quality Council of India and was given out on the day schools reopened. The chief minister said the distribution was part of the state’s commitment to providing quality education.

The government of India has spent â‚ą3,366 crore (about $409,000,000) to provide Vidya Kanuka kits, including school bags, bilingual textbooks, stationery, uniforms with cloth belts and shoes, to students in need. The kits aim to ensure that no student lacks essential resources for their education.

Addressing a public meeting, CM Reddy outlined his vision of providing superior education to the state’s children. His goal is to bring government schools up to international standards while equipping students with modern concepts and futuristic technologies. He particularly stressed the importance of giving poorer children these educational advantages.

The chief minister announced that the government’s syllabus would be expanded to include modern concepts like AI, machine learning, language modules, and ChatGPT.

The state government of Andhra Pradesh has also signed an agreement with Educational Testing Service, a US-based firm, to train students in 3rd to 9th grades in English-language competency and provide professional development for teachers. CM Reddy said the program would involve sending instructors to the United States for relevant skills training.

In an effort to drive educational reform, he announced that â‚ą60,329 crore (about $7.3 billion) had been invested in the state’s education system, with 52 government school teachers undergoing training in the United States. He proclaimed that his state was setting a national example with its efforts.

The Amma Vodi scheme, which provides parents with â‚ą15,000 (about $180) annually to contribute to their children’s education expenses, has already cost the state of Andhra Pradesh â‚ą19,617 crore rupees (about $2.3 billion). CM Reddy said that the scheme is encouraging more parents to send their children to school. The state also offers nutritious meals to students in government schools under the Goru Muddha scheme.

The chief minister also announced that the state had collaborated with edu-tech firm Byju’s to provide digital content for students from Classes 6 to 10. In addition, 10,000 smart TVs were set up in schools for students in Classes 1 to 5, and English labs were created to aid English medium learning.
