Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Thursday at La Seine Musicale in Paris that India and France had agreed to grant five-year long-term post-study visas to Indian Masters students.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in France for a two-day visit, where he was welcomed by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne and given a guard of honor. He will meet with President Emmanuel Macron to discuss issues, then attend the ceremonies of French National Day as the Guest of Honor.

The announcement came after the prime minister met with PM Borne and Senate President Gerard Larcher, which aimed to strengthen India’s strategic ties with France further. Modi also addressed the Indian diaspora present at the venue.

“The last time I came to France, it was decided that Indian students studying in France would be given a two-year post-study work visa. Now it has also been decided that Indians pursuing Masters in France will be given a long-term post-study-visa of five years,” said PM Modi.

Modi has made it easier for foreign academics and professionals to study in India, he announced during a visit to France. He said those abroad are interested in learning more about the country. “When I meet academicians and professionals from abroad, they also say that how (sic) can they relate the experience, knowledge, and experience they have with India,” he said. “It has been made easier for such friends to study in Indian institutions.”

Additionally, issues regarding Overseas Citizen of India cards in Reunion Island have been resolved. NITI Aayog has given a proper place to the potential and contribution of the Indian diaspora, Modi said. Such initiatives, he concluded, will help strengthen ties between India and the world.

Back in April, France also strengthened their collaboration with Brazil on higher education with 1,359 active agreements between universities, including 276 dual degrees.
