United Kingdom institutions, namely Queen Margaret University and Imperial College of Business Studies, announced a mutual partnership to provide Sri Lankan students an access to world-class education. The program will offer degrees and masters qualifications in multiple disciplines.

The launch ceremony, attended by high-level delegates and corporate leaders, was held at the Kingsbury Hotel on July 19 and was presided over by Acting British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Lisa Whanstall. The partnership will help equip students from Sri Lanka with the necessary skills, resources, and networks to succeed in their chosen fields.

Whanstall noted that Sri Lankan students are the third largest source of income for Britain’s education system, which generates around £65 billion (about $83.5 billion) a year. “Sri Lankans contribute heavily in this regard,” she added.

She also said that the local education sector could attract significant investments, as only 20 percent of eligible university students are able to access government universities.
