King’s University College is expanding its relations in Vietnam as it sees considerable potential in the Asian country’s education sector. A high-level delegation, including its president Dr. David C. Malloy, is aiming to reinforce existing partnerships and establish new avenues for academic collaboration.

One significant highlight of the trip will be the unveiling of the King’s International Student Award, a financial aid program targeted at Vietnamese students planning to study at King’s University College from 2024 onwards. This scholarship will offer a maximum of CA$32,000 (approximately $23,431) across four years of full-time study. The award aims to incentivize Vietnamese students to pursue higher education opportunities in Canada and to assist them financially in this endeavor.

“We are committed to both strengthening our existing partnerships in Vietnam and establishing new ones. The country is a promising market with a burgeoning number of prospective industry leaders,” commented Malloy.

This move is in line with the mandate of the Canadian Bureau for International Education to foster academic ties between the two countries.

Broader mission

Dr. Malloy elaborated on the broader mission of the visit: “This journey emphasizes our dedication to global engagement. The potential collaborations between Vietnamese institutions and King’s could enrich our academic environment significantly. This provides invaluable experiences for our students, faculty, and researchers by granting them access to a variety of resources and viewpoints.”

In addition to forging international academic partnerships, King’s University College has shown its commitment to global academic excellence through its specialized program, The King’s Promise. This initiative guarantees students a meaningful job within six months post-graduation, or offers them an additional year of study at no extra charge.

More opportunities

By providing international work-study jobs on campus, King’s aims to cater specifically to Vietnamese students seeking higher educational opportunities in Canada. The delegation is optimistic that their visit will lead to fruitful discussions and mutually beneficial partnerships, paving the way for an enhanced academic and cultural exchange between Canada and Vietnam.
