The Vietnam Embassy in the UK and Ireland’s Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation, and Science met in Dublin on July 10 to explore educational, scientific, and technological collaboration.

Deputy Ambassador To Minh Thu praised agreements between Vietnam and Ireland, particularly in higher education with university and postgraduate scholarships going to Vietnamese students. Currently, 150 Vietnamese students are studying in Ireland.

Thu proposed continued collaboration in research and student exchange, implementation of Vietnam’s Project 89 into Irish universities, and promotion of Ireland as a destination for Vietnamese researchers.

She also suggested new scholarship programs to replace the recently-ended Irish Development Experience and Sharing program. She also proposed sci-tech exchanges between Ireland and Vietnam to strengthen bilateral collaboration in critical areas.

DFHERIS’s international cooperation division head Ian McKenna lauded the two countries’ recent collaboration, particularly in education, as a hallmark of their bilateral relationship.
