Universities in the US are asking incoming international students to exercise vigilance with regard to US immigration policies – from the time students leave their home country to the time they complete their program.

John Wilson from Middle Tennessee State University urged students to research the immigration process, considering how a higher level of scrutiny is expected. Students must remain well-informed, he said, as quoted by the Times of India.

Wilson further stated that the university is committed to providing comprehensive services to facilitate a seamless transition for students entering a foreign academic environment.

Job prospects after graduation
Universities are also addressing concerns about post-graduation unemployment and the consequent return of international students to their home countries. Staying active in academic pursuits, however, can enhance students’ prospects of securing employment upon completing their studies, they advised.

Balaji Krishnan from the University of Memphis said that – while the institution offers various internships and short-term courses to bolster students’ employability – the onus lies in students to capitalize on these opportunities.

The previous year witnessed over 210,000 students from India embarking on their educational journey in the US, according to statistics from American universities.

Marci Fradkin from Virginia Commonwealth University said there are approximately 300 STEM courses available but recommended diversifying course choices as a strategy to enhance job prospects for students.
