India’s education minister pushes reforms at conclave

India’s Union Minister of State for Education Subhas Sarkar highlighted the importance of education and the ongoing reforms in the sector in a video message during his inauguration of the two-day I2C2 International Innovation Creativity Conclave.

I2C2 is a groundbreaking event organized by the World Forum for Education, bringing together stakeholders from higher education, policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators to promote innovation through the exchange of best practices.

Vijay Chauthaiwale, India’s head of foreign affairs, stressed the nation’s innovative achievements in his keynote address, citing the United Payment Interface and the COVID vaccine as examples. He called for the expansion of local solutions to meet global demands.

Ashutosh Sharma, President of the Indian National Science Academy, Indian National Science Academy, stressed the importance of distinguishing between innovation and invention.

In her keynote address, Secretary General Pankaj Mittal of the Association of Indian Universities underscored the importance of fostering students’ curiosity through the support of educators.

Srinivas Rao, Director of ICAR-National Academy of Agriculture Research Management in Hyderabad, warned about the perils of global hunger exacerbated by excessive food waste. He highlighted the need to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers with high urea content and called for improved production practices worldwide.

Rupa Vasudevan, University Chancellor, emphasized the importance of core values in teaching and daily operations.

During the panel discussions, experts deliberated on the benefits of international collaboration for students, faculty, and universities. 

The event was jointly organized by the World Forum for Education and Bharatiya Engineering, Science and Technology Innovation University in Andhra Pradesh.

In his video message, Mr. Sarkar regretfully informed that his attendance at the conclave was precluded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inauguration of the new Parliament building in Delhi.

 

India and the United States recently initiated a virtual working group to strengthen cooperation in education and skill development as part of an agreement between the Indian Ministry of Education and the US Department of State.
