Eastern European universities are seeing increased demand from Turkish students seeking affordable education abroad, compared to options in the US, the UK, and Canada.

Over the past three years, there has been a 70-percent surge in the number of Turkish students opting for Eastern European universities.
Aslıhan Özenç, an overseas education consultant, attributed the growing demand from Türkiye to the affordability of Eastern European countries. The appeal lies in their competitive prices for education and living costs.
Tuition fees in Central and Eastern European universities vary from 2,000 to 7,000 euros ($2,200 to $7,600), with Turkish students showing particular interest in fields like medicine, engineering, architecture, and psychology, added Özenç.
Excluding education expenses in Poland, Hungary, and Czechia, a student’s monthly expenses for accommodation, food, health insurance, and shopping range from 450 to 1,000 euros ($495 to $1,100).
Renting a house in Hungary and Poland costs an average of 400 euros ($440) per month, while in Czechia, the figure rises to 700 euros ($770).
Italy is also a popular destination for university education, thanks to its scholarship system. Eligible students receive free education and can also get cash support scholarships of up to 7,000 euros ($7,770) annually.
Europe’s educational tourism industry is booming, set to grow at a 15-percent annual rate from 2023 to 2033, as per a report by Future Market Insights. The sector’s revenue, which reached $92.1 billion in 2022, is projected to quadruple to $436.5 billion by 2033.
