The Canadian government remains committed to extending support to Ukrainians fleeing Russia’s invasion.

Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Sean Fraser announced on March 21 that the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) program for Ukrainians overseas will be extended until July 15.

Ukrainians currently holding CUAET will have until March 31 of next year to travel to Canada, while those in Canada have until the same date to extend or adjust their temporary status with no visa fees.

“We remain committed to helping those fleeing Russia’s illegal and unjustifiable invasion of Ukraine. Canada will continue to stand with the people of Ukraine, including those who’ve been forced to flee Russia’s senseless invasion,” said Fraser.

The government said the settlement services will remain available to Ukrainians and their families, allowing them to fully participate in Canadian communities during their stay.

The one-time transitional financial support will also be provided to Ukrainians and their family members as well as an access to emergency accommodations for up to two weeks as needed.

The government also assured that it continues to monitor the ongoing needs of Ukrainians.

The CUAET was launched in 2022 to give Ukrainians and their immediate family members of any nationality the opportunity to stay in Canada as temporary residents for up to three years.

On March 23, the IRRC revealed that the number of foreign nationals in Canada has doubled in 2022 with almost half of it partly due to the thousands of Ukrainians who fled their war-torn country.
