The administration of United States President Joe Biden released an updated National Artificial Intelligence R&D Strategic Plan, inviting public comments on crucial artificial intelligence issues.

In its efforts to promote responsible AI development, the White House has introduced an Artificial Intelligence Bill of Rights and risk management framework, investing $140 million in seven new national academies dedicated to research and has commented on the use of this technology by private enterprises.

Under the Biden Administration, the Office of Science and Technology and Policy’s National AI R&D Strategic Plan has been updated. It now includes a ninth core strategy, which aims to promote responsible global collaboration in AI research. The plan’s objective is to ensure that innovation benefits the public while protecting rights, safety, and democratic values.

The Office of Science and Technology Policy is currently seeking public input regarding the use of artificial intelligence to protect individuals’ rights, manage risks, and improve people’s lives. The Request for Information is part of a broader initiative undertaken by the federal government to develop a comprehensive AI strategy.

The OSTP has also invited individuals and organizations to provide comments on its new technology development strategies, including AI. The prompts cover topics such as how AI can be utilized to identify cyber vulnerabilities in existing infrastructure systems and how Federal agencies can enhance their utilization of shared resources through AI. Comments should be submitted to the Federal eRulemaking Portal.

The US Department of Education has also released a new report that examines the potential opportunities and risks associated with artificial intelligence in the realms of teaching, learning, research, and assessment. The report offers insights and recommendations that emphasize AI’s ability to facilitate novel interactions between educators and students, address learning variability, enhance feedback loops, and support educators. However, it also emphasizes the importance of addressing algorithmic bias and the need for trust, safety, and appropriate guardrails.

The Biden Administration is actively addressing national security concerns surrounding AI, particularly in the fields of cybersecurity, biosecurity, and safety. To ensure that leading AI companies have access to the best practices for protecting models and networks, government cybersecurity experts have been enlisted
