The United States Embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh recently held a special event, termed “Super Friday”, dedicated to streamlining the student visa application process

The initiative, held on a specific Friday, aimed to accommodate a large number of student visa applicants by extending interview hours and providing dedicated attention to each student’s case, according to a press release.

During “Super Friday,” the consular staff at the U.S. Embassy conducted interviews with over 500 students who were seeking nonimmigrant student visas.

The U.S. Embassy in Dhaka has been diligently addressing the increasing demand for visas in recent times. Over the past year, the Embassy’s staff devoted their time on 16 weekends to conduct interviews for more than 6,000 nonimmigrant visa applicants, including students. Additionally, they handled over 2,000 immigrant visa applicants, displaying a commitment to efficiently process visa applications across various categories.

The significance of promoting opportunities for qualified international students to pursue education in the United States cannot be overstated. During the 2021-2022 academic year, an impressive 948,519 international students from over 200 countries enrolled in U.S. higher education institutions.

Acknowledging the invaluable contributions of international students to American college and university campuses, the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka currently holds the seventh rank worldwide among U.S. Embassies and Consulates for the number of student visas issued.

U.S. Ambassador Peter Haas expressed his enthusiasm for Bangladeshi students choosing the US for higher education.

“From engaging in groundbreaking research to enriching campus life through cultural programs, Bangladeshi students continue to leave their mark across the United States,” he stated.

Despite the challenges posed by the global COVID-19 pandemic, the US Embassy in Dhaka remains committed to facilitating international educational exchange.

In response to the pandemic’s disruptions, the embassy has taken special measures, such as organizing “Super Fridays,” to assist student visa applicants.

The embassy aims to ensure that as many students as possible receive their visas in time for the fall semester by conducting additional interviews.

The US continues to be a preferred destination for international students seeking higher education. Over the years, the number of Bangladeshi students pursuing studies in the U.S. has shown significant growth, increasing from 2,800 in the 2010-11 academic year to an impressive 10,597 in the 2021-22 academic year.
