TUS expands global presence with new Nigerian liaison office

The establishment of the new office aims to provide essential support and guidance to students from Nigeria and other sub-Saharan countries who aspire to pursue higher education.

The Technological University of the Shannon in Ireland has expanded its global reach with the inauguration of a new student liaison office in Lagos, Nigeria. 

According to a press release, the establishment of the new office aims to provide essential support and guidance to students from Nigeria and other sub-Saharan countries who aspire to pursue higher education at TUS’s esteemed campuses in Ireland.

The opening ceremony was graced by Ambassador of Ireland to Nigeria Peter Ryan who commended TUS for their dedication and investment in fostering stronger ties and educational opportunities between Nigeria and Ireland.

He said the inauguration of the TUS Student Liaison Office in Lagos is a highly positive stride towards establishing educational partnerships between Ireland and Nigeria, noting it would bring far-reaching benefits to students and the overall educational landscape. 

“This commitment to fostering academic excellence will shape a brighter future for all, strengthening bonds between these two countries,” said Ryan.

TUS President Professor Vincent Cunnane highlighted the significance of the newly established Nigerian Student Liaison Office, emphasizing TUS’s proactive efforts in developing relationships with African countries over the past six years. 

“We are determined to expand our global partnerships, attract international students and researchers to TUS, and offer invaluable international opportunities to our students, staff, and researchers,” he said.

The addition of the Lagos office marks TUS’ fourth International student liaison office, expanding their presence alongside the established offices in New Delhi, India; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and Shanghai, China.

Donnacha McNamara, vice president of international at TUS, said the establishment of the Student Liaison Office in Lagos reflects TUS’s strategic efforts to provide essential support and guidance to students from Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa. 

“Our commitment to internationalization is unwavering, and this new office is another step forward in achieving that goal,” he said.

TUS, one of Ireland’s newest and most distinctive technological universities, boasts a student body of over 14,000 across six campuses in Ireland’s Midwest and Midlands. 

With a strong emphasis on applied learning and innovative approaches, the university is dedicated to addressing the ever-changing demands of society and industry, not only within its region but also on a global scale.
