To strengthen the educational ties between Taiwan and the United States, the Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan has sent a delegation to participate in the NAFSA 2023 Annual Conference Expo. The event, themed “Inspiring an Inclusive Future,” is being held in Washington, DC from May 30 to June 2.

Led by Mon-Chi Lio, Political Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education, the delegation’s primary objective is to engage in international dialogues on education and showcase Taiwanese universities and colleges to the global community.

Comprising representatives from 24 institutions of higher learning, this year’s Taiwanese delegation consists of nearly 60 individuals. The group aims to promote the renowned ‘Study in Taiwan’ brand during the conference, with the hope of attracting international students to pursue higher education opportunities in Taiwan.

NAFSA 2023 boasts a distinguished lineup of attendees, including education ministers across the world. Ambassador Bi-Khim Hsiao, Ethan Rosenzweig, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the United States, Laura Rosenberger, Chair of the American Institute in Taiwan, and Tomasz Rzymkowski, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Poland, are among the esteemed guests of honor.

“Higher education institutions are a key pillar of a free society, and through these exchanges, Taiwan and the US are strengthening our shared values and contributing to a brighter future for our students,” said Advisor Huey-Jen Su from FICHET.

To foster networking and collaboration, FICHET hosted the Taiwan Night networking banquet on the evening of May 31. The event drew over 200 attendees, including senior officials from the Taiwan Ministry of Education, the US Department of State, and representatives from Taiwanese and American universities.

Established in 2005, FICHET aims to promote studying in Taiwan and cultivate cross-border synergies in higher education. The foundation actively encourages partnerships between its 119 member institutions and foreign universities.
