Afghan women defy Taliban's education ban, embrace online learning amid challenges

Since the Taliban extended their ban on female attendance at schools to include higher education in December 2022, internet-based course providers report a notable demand from Afghanistan for online courses in subjects such as English language, science, and business.

While Afghan universities are prepared to reintegrate female students, the decision to lift the ban enforced since last December rests with Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, according to a report by Associated Press.

In understanding the socio-economic challenges faced by vulnerable groups due to climate change, Qatar’s emphasis on green jobs offers a route for marginalized youth to participate actively in the green economy, ensuring a sustainable future for forthcoming generations.

Countries can use the seven-dimension framework to develop climate-smart education systems tailored to their communities. These dimensions include data and evidence, policy and planning, coordination, finance, infrastructure, teaching and learning, and schools and communities.

The National Policy on Inclusive Education also aims to create sustainable and inclusive learning environments for children with special needs. It gives teachers and school administrators guidelines for creating disability-inclusive classrooms that ensure equitable access to the curriculum and necessary support for all learners.

As the lead agency for education in Afghanistan, UNICEF has been engaged in constructive talks with the de facto Ministry of Education. Samantha Mort, UNICEF’s spokesperson for Afghanistan, expressed appreciation for the commitment from the de facto minister to keep all classes running while discussions are held on timelines and practicalities.

Colombia’s armed conflict has significantly contributed to the education crisis in the country. Tackling this issue requires both immediate emergency responses and long-term peace and development initiatives that bridge humanitarian, peace, and development efforts.
