The International Council of Nurses (ICN) and the National League for Nursing (NLN) have jointly unveiled a groundbreaking initiative that will reshape the landscape of nursing education.

The ICN Education Experts Advisory Committee (ICNEE) aims to focus on elevating investment in this critical field and establishing international best practices. At the heart of ICNEE’s mission is the amplification of ICN’s influence in the dissemination of world-class nursing education strategies.

Moreover, this committee willl play a pivotal role in shaping the discussions surrounding the forthcoming World Health Organization (WHO) State of the World’s Nurses report. Its primary objective is to ensure that the report provides a comprehensive assessment of the effectiveness and impact of educational frameworks designed for the future nursing workforce.

Global expertise

Comprising 14 distinguished members representing WHO regions across the globe, the ICNEE committee has been established based on recommendations from the ICN. The NLN’s Institute for Diversity and Global Initiatives will serve as the hosting institution. Dr. Sandra Davis, deputy director for the NLN and Walden University School of Nursing Institute for Social Determinants of Health and Social Change, will serve as the committee’s chairperson.

Dr. Pamela Cipriano, president of the ICN, expressed optimism regarding the potential of this pioneering initiative to revolutionize nursing education.

“The ICNEE will maximize the impact of ICN and NLN’s educational activities and initiatives. I am confident that this committee will be instrumental in achieving our objectives of enhancing nursing education and increasing the recruitment of nurse educators, who play a pivotal role in this effort,” Cipriano noted.

With a structured approach aimed at addressing the paramount needs within nursing education, the ICNEE is poised to bridge existing gaps and establish new standards in healthcare education policy and practice.
