The American Council on Education Learning Evaluations has expanded its list of recommended college credits for Cambridge International AS & A Level exams.

The announcement, made in July, introduces six additional subjects to the existing list, including business; digital media & design; geography; global perspectives and research; physics; and travel & tourism.

The role of ACE
ACE serves as the coordinator of higher education institutions in the US, providing leadership and a unified voice on major educational matters. The endorsed exams are now included in the ACE National Guide, which assists American colleges and universities in awarding credit for diverse educational experiences.

Alongside the newly endorsed exams, ACE currently supports college credit recommendations for numerous other subjects, such as biology, chemistry, computer science, and mathematics, among others.

A rigorous evaluation process
The evaluation process for these endorsements entailed a meticulous review by academic subject matter experts and a psychometrician. The review body examined content, validated learning outcomes, and assessed competencies before formulating their college credit recommendations. A psychometrician further scrutinized Cambridge International’s procedures for test development, exam proctoring, and score reporting.

ACE’s endorsement is significant, given the program’s substantial growth in the U.S. since its inception in 1995. The organization recognized the correspondence of these exams with college-level standards, as documented in its July report.

This is particularly noteworthy as the Cambridge International program aligns with state and local access and equity priorities, providing educational pathways for a diverse range of learners, including non-native English speakers.

The Cambridge program enjoys recognition from over 900 US colleges and universities, including Ivy League institutions and other esteemed establishments. Additionally, public universities in 13 states grant college credit for qualifying grades on these exams.

Globally, Cambridge programs are accessible in over 10,000 schools across 160 countries, further underlining their global acceptance and reputation for excellence.
